How do we decide what counts as our own creativity?

This course is for educators who want to explore and develop ways to use artificial intelligence as a tool for strengthening their students' creative thinking skills and personal voice.

What To Expect

  • Create a project plan to use AI in your classroom to strengthen your students' creative thinking skills and personal voice. 
     

  • Explore ways to use Large Language Models and other AI tools to spark student imagination. 
     

  • Strengthen your questioning skills and how to lead your students to critique their own questions and inquiry frameworks and the answers generated by AI.
     

  • Confront and explore how AI is challenging our current education models and ways to use creative engagement in your teaching practice to adapt to the new reality of AI in learning.
     

  • Develop tools for guiding your students to use AI responsibly. 

Workshop Themes

  • Create a project plan to implement in your classroom that uses digital media and AI to strengthens students' creativity and personal voice.
     

  • Shape questions and inquiry frameworks that challenge AI responses and inspire creative thinking.
     

  • Explore Large Language Models (such as ChatGPT) and other AI tools (such as NightCafe and Craiyon) for sparking student imagination, 
     

  • Experiment with digital platforms and resources that make use of Generative AI (Adobe Express, Google Bard, Canva, and our smartphone cameras).
     

  • Develop language for acknowledging and navigating concerns about AI as a burgeoning tool in the classroom and beyond.

The Details
2024 Project Design Lab

June 24-28 / 9:00am - 4:00pm

University of Vermont / Burlington

Tuition

  • $2,000 - Three graduate credits

  • $1,790 - Certificate of Participation for 40 hours relicensing credits

 

Tuition includes a private air-conditioned dorm room with centrally located private bath at the University of Vermont, plus breakfast and lunch. Everyone is on their own for dinner in Burlington. Lodging is optional.

Attend Solo or in a Team

You can attend solo or with a team from your school or district.

 

Teams can be composed of educators (classroom teachers, councilors, paras, special educators, staff, administrators) and can be from the same grades and content areas, or mixed.

 

Teams may include educators from different schools in the district if you want to design a multi-school project 

​

Teaching Artist Residency - OPTIONAL

Jamie is available for a limited number of in-school residencies to support implementing your project. If you would like information on how to schedule a residency, complete the PDL Questions Form and we'll get right back to you.
