Nourish Your Creative Self to Revitalize Your Teaching Practice

This course is for K-12 art teachers who want to explore and grow their artistic practice as a pathway to expand and revitalize their teaching practice.

Through art-making workshops and individual asynchronous work, you will explore your creative self, make art with colleagues and on your own, and strengthen your teaching practice with art making and project planning skills.

What To Expect

  • Expand your art-making skills through hands-on workshops with master teaching artists.

  • Explore the creativity within yourself to fuel your teaching practice.

  • Develop tools and techniques to nurture your personal well-being and artistic identity, and how to use those skills to strengthen the well-being and creativity of your students.

  • Build relationships with a cohort of art-teacher colleagues in a supportive and creative environment.

  • Have fun – guaranteed!

Workshops

Launching Your Creative Journey
In the first workshop, you will create a handmade journal and decorative papers to serve as a personal record of your process throughout the course. You will learn handmade bookbinding and decorative paper techniques, such as paste paper, suminagashi, and gelli printing.  Each week, you will complete creative exercises and reflective prompts in your handmade journal that deepen self-awareness, dissolve creative blocks, and help you reconnect with your inner artistic voice to strengthen your teaching practice. By the end of the course, you will have a rich visual and written record of your journey and new strategies to inspire both your own artmaking and your students’ creative growth.

Conceal & Reveal
Your
Artist Identity with Fiber

Explore fiber, threads, and more in this hands-on workshop. Explore your artistic identity as you create a mixed media representation of your creative self in this moment of time. What do you choose to conceal and/or reveal? You will learn about some past and present fiber artists and have an opportunity to play with assorted fiber media to create a self portrait of your artistic self.

Tina Logan
Workshop Leader

Tina has 38 years of experience teaching art to all ages, with 30 of those years teaching art in the Essex Westford School district.

Reclaimed Reflections
on Your
Teacher Identity

In this engaging and imaginative workshop, you will go beyond the traditional flat surface to construct a three-dimensional self-portrait of your teacher identity. Using an assortment of 3D shapes and reclaimed materials, you will explore the idea of identity through abstraction and physical form. This is not about creating a photorealistic likeness, but rather building a representation of yourself that captures your essence – as an educator and as an individual.
